Soham Lodge Activity Provision
NATIONAL ACTIVITY PROVIDER ASSOCIATION
At Soham Lodge, we are a proud registered member of NAPA, the National Activity Provider Association and our Activities Coordinator is a NAPA registered Level 3 Team Leader. Our residents receive the highest standards of activity provision.
NEW RESIDENTS
At Soham Lodge we are always delighted to welcome new residents. We work together with the resident, family, and friends to put together a tailored activity care plan with goals and preferences. Together we create a ‘This Is Me!’ booklet outlining everything which the resident would like to share, from their favourite chocolate and music to social interaction preferences. Our activity provision is very person-centred and designed to promote the individual’s autonomy, choice and independence.
WHOLE TEAM APPROACH
At Soham Lodge, we have a whole team approach when it comes to activity provision meaning all departments get involved! The team and residents enjoy getting involved in TikTok challenges, community projects and Fancy Dress Friday. Whether it’s the laundry team having a chat with the residents and pairing socks together, or the residents helping the kitchen team set the table for lunchtime, there is always an opportunity to have fun and be social.
ACTIVITIES
At Soham Lodge, residents enjoy a varied activity programme. Our programmes are carefully designed with the purpose of tapping into the residents’ ten activity core needs – creative, cultural, self-esteem, emotional, intellectual, learning/development, physical, sensory, social and spiritual.
Residents enjoy being involved in group and one to one activities, community engagement projects, outings, charity work, competitions, TikTok challenges, intergenerational projects and events. We are very proud of our ‘Tech Club’ where residents enjoy learning how to make a video call, set up an email, online shopping and many like speaking to ‘Alexa’ daily on their Echo Dots. Check out the Soham Lodge Care Centre Facebook page to view our daily posts and our action-packed activity programme.
EVENTS
We have hosted several events over the year including our Summer Fete, Christmas Bazaar, Pride Festival, Soham Lodge Bake Off, our annual Christmas outing to the local panto, Remembrance reenactments, staff annual panto, Harvest Festival to name but a few.
We host monthly ‘Around the World’ dining experiences with virtual armchair traveling. Check out our events page for more information on events, intergenerational projects, BBC and media coverage.
STAY CONNECTED
We regularly post updates on the Soham Lodge Care Centre Facebook page which are enjoyed by the residents’ family and friends. We stay connected via social interaction and video calls.
We host many virtual intergenerational projects with the local schools. We have recently purchased a Samsung interactive Flipboard for our residents to continue learning and to stay connected.
MONTHLY RESIDENTS’ MEETING
Residents attend a monthly residents meeting. These meetings are very important for several reasons. At Soham Lodge, we encourage residents to have a voice to promote autonomy, dignity and independence. The residents’ meeting is an opportunity to understand how the residents perceive their overall experience. Many meetings consist of the residents requesting Chinese takeaways, cheese and wine events and recently Newmarket sausages! We are always happy to facilitate the residents’ requests and the residents’ feedback is always actioned by management.
VOLUNTEERING
We are always delighted to welcome volunteers at Soham Lodge Care Centre. We have a trained in-house Time Credits Team leader. Time credits are a Cambridgeshire County Council initiative to give back to those who volunteer. A time credit is issued each time you volunteer. Time credits can be exchanged at participating organisations for cinema tickets, spa days, football matches, tickets to the Tower of London, to name but a few. All volunteers complete an application form and a free DBS check. Volunteers undergo a mandatory induction process including a show around, meet and greet, fire safety, moving and handling, and other relevant training for their position. A team member is always on hand to support you in volunteering. We also welcome work experience and apprenticeship applications.
Should you be interested in volunteering please contact us to begin your volunteering journey.
FRIENDS OF SOHAM LODGE
The Friends of Soham Lodge was set up to enhance the lives of the residents at Soham Lodge Care Centre. The group is made up of friends, family members, staff, and volunteers. The FOSL fundraise throughout the year to raise funds for the residents’ outings, events, entertainment, and resources. We really appreciate the support of the FOSL who truly do make a difference to the lives of the residents. The FOSL are very welcoming to new members.
We host monthly meetings and enjoy a natter over a cake and cuppa.
