Soham Lodge and Covid-19

VISITING THE CARE CENTRE

We have built a social distanced family room separate from the care centre. It is a safe space for both the residents and visitors to enjoy. The room is divided into two by a large glass panel. It has two doors; the residents enter from their enclosed garden area while visitors enter from the visitors’ car park to ensure a safe environment for everyone. It has the latest UV disinfectant technology for safety, an Echo Dot and a two-way speaker system. The family room is disinfected between visits, we allow thirty minutes for this process which also prevents a crossover of visitors.

Following changes to the Public Health England guidelines, we now have the facility for designated visitors to visit their relatives in a specific room inside the care centre which is also disinfected between visits. Please book your visit in advance by contacting Soham Lodge Care Centre.

VIDEOCALLS

Friends and family can now speak with the residents virtually via our video call service. Video call appointments can be made by contacting Soham Lodge. A team member will facilitate or assist with the video call.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

We pride ourselves at Soham Lodge in our involvement with the local community. We have worked incredibly hard to maintain a lively and varied range of activities throughout as we know how important this is to the residents’ wellbeing. Since the beginning of the pandemic residents have taken part in many community engagement projects – Soham Write and Unite, The Babylon Arts “Somewhere in Ely” Art project, TikTok dance challenge project, Postcards of kindness, VE memories intergenerational project with local schools, intergenerational penpal projects and a virtual masquerade ball which featured a live operatic performance sponsored by G’s a local produce company. As the lockdown eases, we will commence community engagement for the residents to go on outings in their community. We will also begin to welcome back live entertainment.

Residents continue to have good links with their community and recently won first prize at The Virtual Soham Pumpkin Fair for their poetry entry. Residents have set up and now host their own weekly radio show called “Golden Oldies” on a local radio station. We have weekly live performances within the centre from various artists, we host monthly themed dining experiences and residents take part in a weekly Tech Club learning how to shop online, send an email and to make a video call on their devices.

SOCIAL MEDIA UPDATES

Friends and family can connect with the residents via the Soham Lodge Care Centre Facebook page. Daily content, upcoming events and visual imagery can be viewed on this page. You can also post song requests for the residents “Golden Oldies” radio show via this page.

INFECTION PROTECTION CONTROL

All team members are subject to weekly Covid testing and the residents every 28 days. Team members have achieved and continue to achieve certified training courses to keep up to date with the current coronavirus infection prevention control procedures and the correct usage of PPE. We have invested heavily in equipment during the pandemic, every room has been fitted with the latest UV AirSteril technology system.
